Get ready to tweet and blog your news this fall

Welcome to fall semester Newswriting at the University of Akron. We look forward to meeting you on our first day of class.

Two Newswriting instructors, Paula Maggio and Marilyn Miller, have teamed up to plan some exciting things for you this fall:

• We will use Twitter to practice writing concise leads. If you don’t already have a Twitter account, open one. You will use it in class. You can also get tips on “How to make the most of Twitter.”
• Then follow your instructor on Twitter, and she will follow you as well. To follow Paula Maggio, go to http://twitter.com/newswriting.
• We will use this blog to post the best writing from all four of our Newswriting classes this semester. Once the best stories are posted, you will analyze their strengths and weaknesses based on what we have learned in class, post your comments and vote for the stories you think are best overall.
• We will reward the best writers from both classes.
